Stereo Vision for robots

A quick word on Scorpion Vision 3D.

Scorpion Vision contains a supplementary toolset of 3D tools which can be used to build an object’s 3D model in space. This has specific applications in robot vision. See the image below where a pair of cameras are used to create a stereo vision application.

Traditional 2D vision systems can locate an object in X and Y. Using Stereo vision, Scorpion also provides the Z or vertical measurement. In the image, the valves in the crate can be located with ease, but what cannot be easily detected is the deformation in the base of the crate caused by the weight of the objects.

In order for the robot to locate the part in its claw accurately, the height factor in this application is critical.
