More Scorpion Stinger innovations will follow

Thor Vollset – CEO Tordivel AS says “We are so excited with Scorpion Compact Vision. The extended Compact Vision family will make it easier for our partners to succed. The total cost of a machine vision solution will go down and everybody will be happy. The Scorpion 2D Stinger Camera with integrated illumination and the Scorpion Stinger LEDspot make it easier to deploy reliable solutions and reduce deployment cost. When we combine strobing. multiple exposured images and smart image processing we see that the illumination part of many applications can be solved only by a couple of Scorpion LEDspots.  We will continue to support and launch more Scorpion Stinger units to enhance and improve the Scorpion Compact Vision Concept for 2D and 3D machine vision.

In UK we won the Food Processing award in Robotics and Automation together with Mitsubishi and Quasar Automation for the unique 3D cake decoration system. The system is based on the Scorpion 3D Stinger MLaser Camera and we see this as an important recognition for our real-time  3D in 2D image processing concept.”

Fly in for the best 2D and 3D Machine Vision Training

Scorpion Vision Software® 2D & 3D Training Course
at London Heathrow, March 15 – 17, 2011

Learn from the experts behind Scorpion Vision Software®. The course is based on the new Scorpion Vision Software release 8.3 including Stereo Vision and 3D Robot Vision. The course starts with a brief Scorpion basic introduction, continues with advanced 2D vision tasks and brings you further through 3D vision solutions and the content of the new Scorpion 3D Stinger™.

Scorpion 3D SmartCam

Learn about the benefits of 3D machine vision:

  • Works in physical coordinates, easy to verify against CAD drawings
  • Object location does not degrade when the object position changes
  • It is possible to detect that something is wrong, in 2D machine vision there is normally no quality measurement
  • The systems are more accurate
  • The system will never fail

We’ll be presenting a paper on the benefits of 3D vision in the automotive industry. Scorpion Vision was selected to resolve a problem with a robot pick and place system that was not performing reliably.

The robot system was picking bushes from a crate which would under normal circumstances be a case of 2D vision. But the weight of the bushes in the crate caused an anomaly with the height of the pick point.

A classic example of how 3D machine vision can resolve these kinds of problems, this paper presents the problem and discusses the solution. More information TordivelBlog.
